Check On The Eldest Millennial Daughter

 I saw a video yesterday

While browsing TikTok that said
"Check in on the eldest millennial daughter"
"She is carrying so much"
"She drops her own struggles to help her loved ones"
"She looks fine because she was taught to"
"She is not fine."

She goes on to say that
the eldest millennial daughter
Rarely reaches for help
Because
She is used to doing everything herself.

Sometimes she allows herself
To beg for help
But her loved ones have seen
Her resilience
And success
So they don't believe she really needs them
And instead come to her
To help them.

They think she's fine because
She holds herself to a standard
But she's not fine.
She's burned out
Breaking
On autopilot.

I have never felt more seen.

The thing is
I look like a mess,
So you can only imagine
How much I'm actually struggling.

You have no idea
Even though I have been
Screaming it to you.
Even though I have been
Reaching for help.
Even though I keep
Telling you
I'm crumbling.

What is so sad is
When I
And the others
Burn out,
Breaks,
Gives up,
Everyone will say
"Check in on your friends",
Forgetting that they never checked in on us
Or never admitting they remember
When we were on our knees
Begging for someone
Anyone
To see our pain.
