Alligator Army

 Alligator Army 🐊

Once upon a time,
As most stories begin,
There was a girl who
Sang to the bullfrogs,
Skipped through the mangroves,
Swam among the alligators.
She was happy and free.

One day,
Her community and family
Were pulled off the streets.
They were viciously torn
From their families,
Their jobs,
Their lives.
Thrown in a dungeon
Surrounded by alligators.

The girl heard
Her peoples' cries.
The king's celebrations.
His light skinned minions
Calling for her people
To be fed to the alligators.

There were protests.
There were riots.
There were lawsuits.
Nothing was successful.
The horror continued.
The girl took it upon herself
To act.

She sang to the bullfrogs
To ask the alligators
To help her people escape.

One night
On a full moon
She skipped through the mangroves
To meet the alligators
And lead the mission
To free her people.

By now,
Her people knew
She was coming
To save them.
They would be liberated soon.
Word had gotten around
Because the girl
Was not the only one
With a gift to
Sing to the residents
Of the Everglades.

The prisoners watched her arrive
At the barbed wire
With an army
Of alligators in tow.
The alligators obeyed her commands
To break the fences.
To not harm her people.
To lead them to freedom.

Once her people
We're safe
She used her gifts,
To call upon the pythons
To slither in and destroy
The evil that created
The horrific place.

The war was not over,
Very far from it,
But her bravery
Started a revolution
Toward freedom
That is remembered
To this very day.

The end.
