Poetry Prompt: Sleep
Sleep is a cunning lover
I resist it's urges
Day
After day
But it still finds a way
It captures me
I become its prisoner
I am poked and prodded
Tormented
It forces me to dive
Into the void
Of vivid nightmares
And unwanted memories
Tossing
Turning
Arguing
Crying
Finally, it ends
I'm more exhausted than
Before it swallowed me
My throat hurts
Body aches
Head feels like
it might explode
I feel traumatized
And sleep is trying
To take me again
I resist
But it always
Convinces me
To surrender
False promises
Of Rest
Of relaxation
Of rejuvenation
I find it lied when
It swallows me again.
